Schools Cycling riders have the opportunity again for 2020, to receive free of charge, a Cycling New Zealand Schools Licence which will enable them to access and participate in Road and Track Club activity across the country.

This is an exciting opportunity for our school riders to have the ability to access the Road and Track Club system and all the benefits that this provides.

Cycling Clubs in NZ are the grassroots of the sport and provide enormous benefit to members through regular club racing, additional opportunities to gain skills and experience and the ability to make wider connections in the sport.  This is also contributing to our goal of having more riders continue to participate in the sport once they leave school.  We believe that by providing this access while still at school will create a relationship with the club that will see the riders continuing club involvement post school cycling.

How does this work?
Your school will be required to be affiliated with Cycling New Zealand schools for 2020 and name all riders at the time of affiliation (additional riders can be added throughout the year).  These riders (Cycling New Zealand School Members) will then have the ability to opt-in to receive a Cycling New Zealand Schools licence if they wish to participate in Road and Track club events outside of the schools system.  At this time the schools rider will be asked to select their local club (please note that the selected club’s Youth membership fee will apply). You can 'opt in' by clicking the link here.

What does this mean?
This exciting opportunity now means that those school riders who opt in to receive a licence will be able to attend Road and Track Club events throughout New Zealand and will be covered for third party liability under the Cycling New Zealand Insurance Policy.

Does every school rider get one?
This offer is available to all Cycling New Zealand School riders named on their school affiliation list but you will need to ‘opt in’ and complete the information required through the Cycling New Zealand system.  This includes additional details and agreement to the Cycling New Zealand Terms and Conditions and any parent/guardian approval as this activity takes place outside of the school environment.

Do I get a licence card?
Yes! All riders who ‘opt in’ and complete the required details will receive a Cycling New Zealand licence card which will enable them to participate in their nominated Road and Track club level events..

How is this different to a Cycling New Zealand Youth Licence?
A Cycling New Zealand Youth Licence enables the holder to take part in Club, Centre, National Championships and other sanctioned events.  If the school riders wants to participate in events beyond club level events then they will need upgrade to a youth licence.  Please contact membership@cyclingnewzealand.nz for more details.

What if I know already that I want to ride in Centre, National and other Championship events?
If you know already that you would like to ride at this level, then you can just purchase your youth licence and do not need to ‘opt-in’ to obtain a schools licence.
