2020 Schools Cycling Calendar

School Sport New Zealand have confirmed that the sanctioned calendar may resume from July 10 by agreement between the event organiser and School Sport New Zealand (subject to any government guidelines at the time).

Given this update, Cycling New Zealand Schools would like to confirm the 2020 calendar, as below.

More information for these events will become available shortly. All event entries will open at the start of Term 3.

 

2020 Schedule:

The Schools Cycling season will resume at the start of Winter Tournament week, 29 – 31 August with the re-scheduling of the South Island School Road Championships. This will be held in Blenheim, hosted by Cycling Marlborough in place of the Southern Tour. This event will see an Individual Time Trial, Criterium, Hill Climb, Road Race and Team Time Trial across three days. The ITT and the Hill Climb will double as National Championship events. 

The North Island Road Championships have also been rescheduled, and is now scheduled to be held in Cambridge, hosted by Red Events on 5 - 6 September (This will be in place of the Northern Tour, originally scheduled to be on this weekend). The event will see a Team Time Trial, Road Race and Criterium with the Criterium doubling as the National Championships.

This will be followed by a busy school holidays with National Championships for all three codes held over two weeks. The National School Road Championships, organised by Cycling New Zealand, will be returning to the Manawatu from 26 - 28 September. The event will include the Team Time Trial, Road Race and Points Race events.

The National School MTB Championships will now be hosted by PNP Cycling Club with support from Wellington MTB Club and will be held in the Wellington region, across two venues in Wainuiomata and Upper Hutt from 2 - 4 October. It will include Downhill, Enduro, Cross Country and Cross Country Relay events.

This will be followed closely by the National School Track Championships which has been combined with the South Island School Track Championships in Invercargill, hosted by Cycling Southland on 6 - 7 October. This will include a range of individual events as well as Team Sprints and Team Pursuits.  

We thank all our organisers and host venues for their continued support of schools cycling and who have stepped up to support this new calendar. We would also like to acknowledge Bike Methven and Sport Northland and Kerikeri MTB club, who, due to the impact of Covid-19 were unable to host an event this year as planned. We would also like to thank Christchurch Schools Cycling for supporting the change of calendar.
