NRS Opportunities for Schools Riders

Black and orange nrs logo lock up

Cycling New Zealand run a road series called the NRS, which kicks off soon with the first two events; Yunca Junior Tour of Southland and the AEC Novice Tour next month. These first two events are bonus races for the series, with bonus points up for grabs.

After the recent cancellations of some of our schools cycling events, we have worked with both organisers of these two events to help create extra opportunities to encourage more of our schools riders to take part in these awesome club events.

So just for these two events only, we have received special dispensation that enables the organisers to accept entries from named riders from affiliated schools (so you do not have to have a Cycling New Zealand licence) to take part. We extend our thanks to both Bike Manawatu and Cycling Southland for welcoming school riders and have no doubt they will enjoy the experience and be back for more of the NRS racing in the New Year!

Yunca Junior Tour of Southland

Location: Invercargill

Race Type: 3 day, 6 stage Tour

NRS Grades: Boys and Girls – U15, U17, U19

Previously this event implemented a 100 rider cap, however the team have been hard at work and have come up with a plan create bubbles within the government guidelines in the event that the region is still in Alert Level 2 they may be in the position to go ahead (this is subject to any changes in government guidelines), so are now accepting a limited number of additional entries.

Entries have been extended and now close on Thursday 23 September.

AEC Novice Tour

Date: 30 – 31 October 2021

Location: Ashhurst, Palmerston North

Race Type: 2 day, 3 stage Tour

NRS Grades: Boys and Girls – U15, U17, U19

In addition to the traditional tour and in recognising the recent cancellation of the Skoda National School Road Championships, the team from Bike Manawatu are looking to see if there is any interest in hosting a TTT on Friday 29th October (the day before The AEC Novice Tour starts). This will be open to Junior, Senior youth riders and Adult teams. While this is not a schools sanctioned event it would give school teams the chance to put all their training into a race environment (plus give your parents a chance to race against the clock!).

Before Bike Manawatu move ahead with planning and organising this they are keen to see if there is any interest. Let us know that you are keen by filling out this form (CLICK HERE) by this Friday! One member should do this on behalf of your team.

More information will follow if there is enough interest. Then you might be able to race this TTT on Friday and then stay around enter and race The AEC Novice Tour the next day!
